There’s too much money in the world, though it’s not all going to the right places. The “haves” have gone crazy for not just fine dining, but those elusive/exclusive drinks and dishes with ingredients flown in from far-flung places, minerals like gold, rare and ancient distillates. To show how upside down the world can be, we’re sharing these five concoctions so expensive that they will leave more than a dent in your wallet. Would you try any of these creations or would you rather spend your money on some other indulgence?
The Golden Phoenix

Bloomsbury’s Artisan Bakery in Dubai is where the world’s most expensive cupcake is prepared. The ingredients are all of the highest quality – premium Amedei Porcelana chocolate from Italy, organic French butter, Ugandan vanilla (for those who don’t know, this spice can reach exorbitant prices), and edible 23-karat gold. This dessert is so precious that you need to order it 48 hours in advance (and pay for it too, naturally). The price? A whopping £645. A small fortune for a sweet tooth.
Coctel 27.321

The name of this cocktail references its location. On the 27th floor of Dubai’s 321-meter tall Burj Al Arab, you can taste this “little drink” at the Skyview Bar made from 55-year aged whiskey from Macallan’s exclusive Natural Color collection. It is served in a customized 18-karat gold Baccarat glass. The irony is all of this luxury is that it is sold in a country where alcohol is banned. You too can break the law for a mere US $7500.
The Golden Boy

While such luxuries can be considered rather socially unconscious, this burger, created by Dutch chef Robbert Jan De Veen, was conceived to raise funds for soup kitchens in the Netherlands. The ingredients are those that every foodie salivates over. It includes A5 Wagyu beef (the most exclusive in Japan), beluga caviar (the most expensive in the world), king crab, Iberian ham, white truffle, English Cheddar cheese, and smoked duck fat mayonnaise. The barbecue sauce is made with Macallan whiskey and Kopi Luwak coffee (the most exclusive and expensive kind because it has to pass through the digestive tract of a civet). The bun is prepared with Dom Pérignon and the presentation is topped off with gold leaf. You have to pay a deposit of €750 to order the burger, while its final price totals out at €5000 EUR. More info on their official website.
Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata

Norma’s restaurant in New York has a frittata that is sure to break half the world’s finances. Caviar lovers can revel in a real breakfast of champions with this dish. It is prepared with almost 300 grams of the very rare sevruga caviar, a whole lobster and, of course, organic eggs. Add a mimosa and just imagine how much the bill will be!
Frrrozen Haute Chocolate

One of the most exclusive restaurants in New York, Serendipity 3, sells the most expensive dessert in the world. All the dishes mentioned above pale in comparison to this extravaganza. This chocolate ice cream is made with 14 of the world’s rarest cocoas, sheets of black truffle, 5 grams of 23-karat edible gold and a Madeline au Truffle, considered the most expensive chocolate truffle in the world. It’s served in Baccarat’s iconic Harcourt glass and you eat it with a gold-plated spoon adorned with a diamond valued at US $14,000. The good news is that you can take the spoon home to eat some humble sundaes while waiting for the next paycheck.
