Legend has it that in Rome, when Christianity was forbidden, St. Valentine helped imprisoned soldiers marry their fiancées. When the emperor found out, he had him arrested and ordered that he be beheaded. But during the days he awaited execution, he fell in love with the daughter of the prison judge. She happened to be blind and, as he was a saint, he prayed to God to restore her sight. When he was being transferred to his execution, he handed his beloved a piece of paper. She did not understand the reason, but when she opened it, she could see for the first time and was able to read on the paper, “Your Valentine”, which the saint had written to her as a farewell.
