Are you an enchilada lover? Then you can’t miss the 20th Enchilada Fair in Mexico City. From September 22 to October 1, 2023, the Macroplaza Iztapalapa will become a culinary paradise to honor one of the most emblematic and beloved dishes of Mexican cuisine.
Located in San Lucas, Iztapalapa, the Enchilada Fair will open its doors from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Admission to the event is free, although the dishes are priced to order.
The goal of the fair is to highlight the importance of corn in Mexican gastronomic culture, since the tortilla is a fundamental ingredient of enchiladas. Local chefs and chefs from other states such as Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Puebla will ensure that visitors delight in an impressive variety, from traditional enchiladas with chicken or cheese, to other fillings you may not have tried, such as smoked pork or rabbit. They will be served with a wide range of sauces – green, red, mole, and passion fruit, to name a few.
At noon on September 27, you won’t want to miss the “Pica, pica la enchilada más rica!” contest (Hot, hot, the tastiest enchilada!). As the name suggests, both chefs and diners will be tasked with choosing the enchilada that offers the best balance of flavor and spiciness. And you’ll find more than just food at the fair. There will also be entertainment offered, with artistic groups such as Sonora Dinamita and various dance performances.
